DOING THE RIGHT THING
Recycling programs have been in place in ESS villages for over a decade, and our onsite environmental activities have grown substantially since then.
Onsite at Gateway Village, we recycle cardboard, plastic, aluminium cans, steel cans and paper, as well as batteries, phone chargers, fluorescent tubes and metals. For the last ten years, ESS has been a supporter of Ruggies Recycling the primary sponsors to Princess Margaret Hospital in Western Australia and has donated more than $150,000 via recycling to the program.
We work alongside our clients to implement a range of environmental initiatives on site. Recycling in action includes segregated waste bins for cans, mixed plastic bottles, mixed paper, general waste and food waste. Recycling bins are placed in general areas along with signage to make recycling easy. On site, we engage residents using signage and regular newsletters distributed via noticeboards, intranet and our preferred channel of communication.
Awards or accolades we have received or been nominated for in this category include the Golden Gecko Award for Environmental Excellence. ESS was awarded the Golden Gecko in partnership with Ashoil for an exclusive agreement which sees more than 300,000 litres of used cooking oil from ESS sites in Western Australia recycled into biodiesel every year.
